MaryAnn draws creative influences and passions from growing up in Hawaii, where vivid colors were a natural part of her life. She acquired a passion for nature while hiking, bodysurfing, snorkeling, fluming, camping and exploring remote areas of Hawaii. It is these experiences and memories that influence her passion for colorful ceramic sculptures created out of elemental rawness of clay.
Each sculptures organic texture, depth and focus, is achieved by tearing, imprinting, piercing or smoothing the clay, the individual segments are adhered to each other with a fluid clay slip. Working with a variety of finishes: underglazes, glazes, paints, rubber and metal finishes, the true “Passion of Color” is skillfully accomplished.
